With so many Vail Valley summer activities, it’s a good thing the days are long and you have endless energy, right?! Start the day with a latte and consider what's going to be your adventure for the day. Decide if you’re more of a biker or hiker, walker or runner. If motors are more your things, sign up for an off-road adventure in Edwards. Take a jeep tour or get out on an ATV. Float slowly through the air in a hot air balloon to see the Rocky Mountains in an entirely different way. Hop on a horse in Avon for a clip-clop sort of day.
Even in landlocked Colorado, there are plenty of water-based Vail Valley summer activities to dive into. Go for a whitewater rafting or kayaking adventure in Avon, rent standup paddleboards, pedal a pedal boat or borrow a canoe. There are fountains for kids to splish-splash in as well as a few outdoor public pools, such as those in Eagle or Gypsum. Take part in yoga classes in Beaver Creek and crafting classes. Visit a bookstore for best sellers and timeless classics, then find a spot in the sun and get lost in the words. While away the afternoon at one of Vail Valley’s many parks — your kids will have fun, and you can relax. Or hit an area recreation center for family fun out of the sun. Soccer and lacrosse tournaments take place throughout the spring, summer and fall right here in the Vail Valley as well. Participate with a team or check out some great action on the fields.
Summer Activities Mean Vail Valley Fun
After a day full of adventure, it may be time to chill out, which means an entirely different kind of Vail Valley summer activity. Listen to the sounds of an orchestra under the dazzling stars in Vail, or check out a contemporary dance or classic ballet at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Quaint, cute Minturn has a drive-in movie theater on hot summer nights. Farther west, the Down Valley towns of Gypsum and Eagle have outdoor concerts throughout the summer. Libraries offer books, obviously, but also so much more with their summer programs of music, magic and various other programs and lectures.
Take a short hike and have a quiet moment of reflection overlooking the river. Get an ice cream cone at one of the many farmers’ market that simply overflow with nature’s bounty, artisan crafts and tasty vittles. One thing is for sure, things to do in Vail Valley during the summer abound. Get to it!
