Many towns around the country go to sleep in the winter. Minturn is a little different. True, Minturn is always a little sleepy – after all, there are fewer than 2,000 year-round residents in the entire town! But anyone who lives here, and anyone who chooses to visit in the winter, is here for the love of wintertime Minturn activities.
Just what makes winter Minturn activities so great? One thing is, of course, anything you do on top of the white stuff! But, if you’ve been to Minturn or have been researching the area, you’re probably aware that there are no Minturn ski resorts. But if you’re planning a trip to Minturn and you’re a lover of all things “powder,” fear not: Minturn is just a hop, skip and a jump away from two of the best ski resorts in the country.
By a hop, skip and a jump, we mean a 10-minute drive down Interstate 70. Minturn is located smack dab in the middle between Vail (to the east) and Beaver Creek (to the west), which means you can take your pick of world-renowned ski resorts on any given day of your trip. No matter which direction you choose, you’ll be able to avail yourself of gondola rides, luxurious lodges, resort towns packed with shopping and dining options and (of course) some of the best powder in the country. Regardless of whether you hit the slopes at Vail or Beaver Creek, Minturn serves as the perfect home base for enjoying unlimited adventure at neighboring ski resorts.
If you’re tired of bombing down the slopes at Vail and Beaver Creek on your skis or snowboard (which is unlikely!) or you simply want a change of pace, you can try your hand at snowshoeing and/or Nordic skiing at Minturn’s Maloit Park. There you’ll find groomed and well-marked trails designed with cross-country skiers in mind. Or enjoy a backcountry experience in the surrounding White River National Forest or Holy Cross Wilderness.
Unwinding from Winter Minturn Activities
When you need to warm up after a long day spent enjoying cold weather Minturn activities (and the stellar winter fun promised by nearby resorts), head to downtown Minturn to wrap your hands around a pint of beer or a hot cup of coffee and dig into some delicious food at any of Minturn’s restaurants.
