Operated by Vail Recreation District, Vail Whitewater Race Series gives river enthusiasts a way to kick off the summer season with competitive whitewater racing events held on Gore Creek in Vail Village. This weekly race series usually happens in the early summer season from around the first week in May through the first week in June. Competitive events involve a different whitewater course challenge each week and are open to kayaks, standup paddleboards and two-person rafts. Races begin on Gore Creek beneath the Covered Bridge and end at the International Bridge, where spectators can take in the finish-line excitement. A social event with awards usually follows each evening's races, and points accumulate weekly to determine the final overall series winners in individual and team events.
