Beach volleyball fanatics unite each June at Vail's King of the Mountain Volleyball Open, which has divisions of play for junior boys and girls, masters/seniors, co-ed and adult same-sex competition. King of the Mountain Volleyball Open has grown into one of the country's largest doubles volleyball tournaments since its beginnings in the 1970s. This family-friendly event includes clinics with former Olympians and beach volleyball professionals to foster development of the sport. Primary event locations are the Vail Athletic Fields at Ford Park, and one additional sand court may be used at Red Sandstone Park. King of the Mountain Volleyball Open is also an inspiring event to watch because Vail's Gore Range peaks hover on the skyline in the area of Ford Park, making this open-air setting one that players and onlookers can enjoy.
