The out-and-back Pitkin Creek Trail features waterfalls, aspen groves, conifer forests, glacial moraine and a high alpine lake. From the trailhead in East Vail near Pitkin Creek Townhomes, climb a steep mile or so of densely forested trail before the hike becomes more moderate. Enjoy how the trail undulates through the woods until it reaches Pitkin Lake, tucked under an arc of grey granite and surrounded by alpine tundra. One-way distance for this trail from the trailhead to Pitkin Lake is approximately 4.5 miles, for a round-trip distance of approximately 9 miles.
