In the Vail area where steep mountain hiking abounds, Lost Lake Trail provides some refreshingly easy terrain, and the drive to the trailhead is a scenic adventure in itself. From the west trailhead, follow the gently undulating Lost Lake Trail east through aspen groves and pine forests; after about 3 miles, you'll reach Lost Lake. Here, you can rest or have a picnic while enjoying the beautiful view of a high alpine lake tucked into the forest. The trail continues beyond Lost Lake for approximately another .75 miles until it reaches the east trailhead; return by retracing your steps back to the west trailhead. This trail is open for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and ATV travel. One-way distance for this trail from the west trailhead to the east trailhead is approximately 3.75 miles, for a round-trip distance of approximately 7.5 miles.
