The out-and-back Gore Creek Trail begins in East Vail at a trailhead near Gore Creek Campground and makes a moderate-to-difficult climb to scenic Gore Lake. Along the way you'll walk through densely wooded conifer forests and delightful groves of aspen with their silvery trunks. This well-maintained trail, which is open to hikers and horseback riders, comes to a split after about 4 miles. Take a left at the split, following signage to Gore Lake, and continue up this steeper section of trail that leads to Gore Lake. Stop for a picnic lunch or snack here, and enjoy the descent while retracing your steps back to the trailhead. One-way distance for this trail from the trailhead to Gore Lake is approximately 5.5 miles, for a round-trip distance of approximately 11 miles.
