Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park does a theme park in a way only Colorado can: on top of a mountain. Located in Glenwood Springs (approximately 60 miles west of Vail on I-70), the park makes for a great family-friendly day trip from anywhere in the Vail Valley. The adventure starts right out of the gate with a scenic ride up Iron Mountain in the Glenwood Gondola. From there, the options are seemingly endless. The thrill seekers in your group might want to start off with an adrenaline-pumping ride on the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster or on the infamous Giant Canyon Swing, which propels passengers out over the side of cliff and soaring 1,300 feet above the floor of the Glenwood Canyon. There's also an alpine coaster, a zipline and smaller rides for your adventurous kiddos. And don't miss the climbing wall or getting in on a round of laser tag with your whole gang. Of course no trip up Iron Mountain would be complete without a Glenwood Caverns Cave Tour. The historic Fairy Caves were first discovered in the 1800s, and the park offers two different guided walking tours of the caves (both offered multiple times per day) and one spelunking tour (available by appointment only). When you need a break from all the activity, the Lookout Grille has you covered with views for days paired with satisfying sandwiches, wraps and salads. The park is open year-round, though some rides and attractions operate on a seasonal basis only.
