The out-and-back Deluge Lake Trail is a great choice for fit and adventurous hikers and horseback riders. It begins in East Vail near Gore Creek Campground at a trailhead that is also the trailhead for the Gore Creek Trail. After about .1 miles, stay to the left to follow the narrow Deluge Lake Trail, which passes through boulder fields and becomes steep in sections as it climbs through aspen groves. After about 3 miles, the trail descends to Gore Creek, where a water crossing is required and sometimes difficult to discern. From here, the trail smooths out on its way to Gore Lake, a scenic destination with views of the Sawatch Range and Mount of the Holy Cross. One-way distance for this trail from the trailhead to Deluge Lake is approximately 3.8 miles, for a round-trip distance of approximately 7.6 miles.
