Sure, there are all sorts of well-known winter activities up in Vail and Beaver Creek with those ski resorts, but there are just as many fun wintertime activities Down Valley. The list of things to do in Eagle, Gypsum and Wolcott come winter is robust. Just because there is snow on the ground, for example, doesn’t mean you can’t head out on two wheels: Check out fat-biking options! Or go full winter with a sleigh ride at 4 Eagle Ranch or high above the world up Bellyache Road.
Other Down Valley activities might have you taking a snowshoe or winter hike in the surrounding National Forest or bringing a sled to a heart-pounding descent. Not ready to go off the beaten path? Check out the miles of groomed cross-country trails at Eagle Ranch Golf Course. The town of Eagle encourages outdoor play all year round, so bundle up, slap on some sunscreen, don’t forget the sunglasses and enjoy Mother Nature’s winter wonderland! The town, with a corps of volunteers, floods the town park every winter. Once it freezes well, it’s small town Americana, with pick up ice hockey games, kids learning to skate and others practicing their leaps and twirls. It’s an easy way to spend a few hours with the kids. Right next door is the town park where kids can swing, slide and play.
Other Wintertime Down Valley Activities
There’s always something fun to do in Eagle in the winter. Take a walk on the bike path and end up at one of the locals' favorite coffee shops. Head out into the back country on a snowmobile through a tour or on your own. Winter fly fishing is gaining in popularity, if you can stand the cold, and you can reel in a big one. Gypsum is home to the area’s rec center, so if being indoors is more to your liking, head there for gymnastics, swimming and a great workout. They are open from early til late, so there’s no excuse not to stay fit this winter. Down Valley winter activities can be as mundane or adventurous as you can imagine when you’re in Eagle, Gypsum and Wolcott. Just be ready for fun!
